City of Gold

11:10 PM

On our drive back home we decided to stop by Yosemite. On our way over there we decided to stop by a gold mining town of Sonora. We weren't expecting much, however, we were forced to stay an extra day because of heave rainfall. We hit up Columbia State Historic Park. This small town basically transports you back to the mid 1800's gold rush era! I think our favorite spot was the blacksmith. Was so fascinating to watch them at work! The town had a bank, courthouse, shops and restaurants and then finally a gold panning area. LOVED everything about this park. Truly a historic gem that you must check out if you're in the area. After spending time at Columbia we headed over to Jamestown to check out the train museum. Went thirty minutes before they closed and they let us go in for free :-) We were able to catch up with the last tour and learned a bunch of cool stuff about trains and were able to check some out that were featured in movies. After a fun day of exploring we headed back to our hotel and pigged out on some pizza. My father-in-law told us a neat story about his roadtrip adventure with his mom from Germany to Spain to meet up with a girl he liked. In the end it didn't end up being about the girl but actually the time he spent during that roadtrip with his mom. Such a special story!! Looking forwards to many more trips with our little one. Hoping to someday bring him back to this amazing town.
